Manchester United announced today, Thursday, the transfer of their Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana to Trabzonspor in Turkey on loan until the end of the 2025-2026 season, without an option for the Turkish club to buy the player after the loan ends.
Onana is embarking on a new experience in his career after a turbulent period with Manchester United, where he played 102 matches since his transfer from Inter Milan in July 2023. He managed to win the FA Cup in his first season after defeating Manchester City 2-1 in the final match.
Onana’s temporary departure comes after United signed new goalkeeper Seny Dieng, who joins Turkish keeper Altay Bayindir, putting manager Ruben Amorim in the position of deciding the starting goalkeeper before facing Manchester City in the anticipated Manchester derby on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium.
Onana is expected to deliver an outstanding performance with Trabzonspor to regain his shine in European football and revive his career, while Manchester United fans await Amorim’s decisions regarding the future of the goalkeeper position in the coming period.
